How it all began

Over the last few years photography has played an ever more important role for the cultural centre of Palethe in Pelt. Thanks to in-house photographers, the monthly photography circuit and several exhibitions each year focused around a selection of topics, a nice tradition has already been established.

 

However, Bourbon Lancy, a small village in the French Bourgogne, has shown us a worthy international tradition with their portrait festival 'l’ été des portraits'. More than 300 photographers showed their work in the medieval streets of the village. Something like that should be possible in Pelt, don’t you agree?

Luckily, the organization of professional photographers Nationale Vereniging van Beroepsfotografen has a strong network in Belgium. ‘Breedbeeld’ is our partner and supports amateur photographers. The idea to launch an international photography festival in Pelt was enthusiastically received by many of its members.

 

As such, we want to unite nature and culture with the festival 'Lens op de mens' and put Pelt on the Belgian and European map. Pelt will be the place to be for everyone who is interested in photography thanks to the cultural centre of Palethe, the professional organization of photographers, the province, the town of Pelt and many volunteers.

 

Overpelt will be worth a visit from June until the end of September 2019. We look forward to greeting you in our beautiful town.
